MARCH MADNESS LIVE
March Madness Live Redesign
In the spring of 2020, we began a full redesign of March Madness Live, available on 18 platforms: web, iOS, Android, streaming devices, and voice. The project was initiated to stabilize our tech stack, and it gave us the opportunity to rethink the UX and design of the core experiences. As the Product Designer on the team, I was responsible for gathering competitive analysis and research, and leading the design process from early concepts to delivery.
As the Senior UX Architect, I managed a team of UX Designers, oversaw the UX workflow, and developed an agile testing program with UX Research team to deliver feedback during our design cycle.

Pivoting to project planning
With the pandemic, we had to quickly switch gears from a canceled tournament to a full on redesign. I was heavily involved in the project planning phases for the design-sprints. For this project, we developed a much more buttoned up design sprint process and workflow due to the large quantity of features that we needed to develop, the tight turnaround cycle, and the new WFH/remote conditions.
Developing personas to understand our users
To kickstart this project, I partnered with the UX research team to develop a series of studies focused on getting a better understanding of our march madness fans. This included a month long diary study, an ad co-creation session, focus groups and a survey.
Redesign Principles
As a team, we developed a workshop to help create design principles. We aimed to create alignment across the teams and create a vision for what the future might look like.
Setting up Agile UX Research Program
In order to ensure we got fast feedback during our design sprints, I worked alongside our UXR team to stand up an agile research program for the redesign. With this project, we doubled the amount of studies that we have done in previous years. I served as a liaison between the research team and the product/design team, offering insight into our calendar, timelines and business priorities throughout our design-sprint cycle.
